No data selling GDPR-aware Plain language

At TinyFrolic, we write about hamsters — not about harvesting your data. This page explains, in plain language, exactly what information we collect when you visit our site, why we collect it, and how you can control it. No legalese. No surprises.

Your data is safe

We never sell or trade your personal information with anyone.

Minimal collection

We only collect what’s needed to keep the site running well.

You’re in control

You can request access, correction, or deletion of your data anytime.

Always reachable

Questions? Email us and we’ll respond within 2 business days.

Quick summary: TinyFrolic is a content site about hamster care. We use basic analytics to see which articles help people most, and we store your contact details only if you reach out to us or sign up for our newsletter. That’s really it. Everything else on this page fills in the legal and practical details around those two things.
1

What information we collect

Automatic data from browsing + data you give us directly

There are two types of information that come our way when you use TinyFrolic. The first type is collected automatically — it’s technical data that every website receives from your browser just by virtue of you visiting. The second type is information you actively share with us, like when you fill out our contact form.

Pages & behaviour

Which articles you read, how long you stay, how you scroll, and which links you click.

Device & browser

Browser type, operating system, screen size, and whether you’re on mobile or desktop.

Approximate location

Country and sometimes city — never your precise address or street location.

Technical identifiers

IP address and referring URL (the site you came from), used for security only.

When you actively contact us, we also receive:

  • Contact form: your name, email address, the subject you selected, and the message you wrote. We use this only to reply to you.
  • Newsletter sign-up: your email address, if you choose to subscribe for hamster care tips. You can unsubscribe in one click at any time.
  • Comments (if enabled): your name and comment content if you leave a comment on an article. Your email, if provided, is never displayed publicly.

What we never collect: financial information, passwords, government ID numbers, health records, or any sensitive personal data. We have no interest in it and no system to store it.

2

Why we use your information

Clear purposes — nothing hidden, nothing unexpected

Every piece of data we collect has a specific purpose. We do not use your information for anything beyond what’s listed here, and we do not build advertising profiles or sell data to marketers — ever.

  • To improve our content. Analytics tell us which hamster care guides are popular, where readers drop off, and what topics are missing. This directly shapes what we write next.
  • To reply to you. When you send a message through our contact form, we use your name and email to write back. Simple as that.
  • To send newsletters. If you signed up for updates, we’ll email you new care tips and articles. Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link.
  • To keep the site secure. Technical data like IP addresses help us detect unusual traffic patterns, block spam, and protect the site from abuse.
  • To meet legal obligations. In rare cases, we may be required by law to retain or disclose certain data. We will only ever do this when legally compelled.
No advertising. No profiling. TinyFrolic does not run behavioural advertising. We don’t track you across other websites, build interest profiles, or share your data with ad networks. Our analytics tell us about aggregate site behaviour — not about you as an individual.
3

Cookies & analytics

What’s stored in your browser and why

Cookies are small text files that websites store in your browser. They’re how sites remember things between page loads. TinyFrolic uses cookies sparingly and only for legitimate purposes.

  • Essential cookies are required for the site to function. They handle things like remembering your cookie consent choice so we don’t ask you every single visit. You cannot opt out of these without disabling cookies globally in your browser.
  • Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors use the site. We use Google Analytics (or a privacy-focused alternative like Plausible or Fathom) to collect anonymised, aggregated data — things like total page views, average session length, and top-performing articles. These cookies do not identify you personally.
  • No advertising cookies. We do not use retargeting pixels, Facebook Pixel, ad network cookies, or any tracking technology designed to follow you around the internet. TinyFrolic is ad-free.

You can manage or delete cookies through your browser’s settings at any time. On most browsers you can find this under Settings → Privacy or Security → Cookies. Disabling analytics cookies will have no effect on your ability to read any content on TinyFrolic.

4

Who we share your data with

A short list with very limited exceptions

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. Full stop. There are, however, a small number of situations where data may be shared with third parties — and we want to be transparent about each one.

  • Hosting & infrastructure providers (such as our web host and content delivery network) process technical data to serve the website to your browser. These providers are contractually bound to handle data securely and cannot use it for their own purposes.
  • Email service providers handle newsletter delivery and store your email address on our behalf if you’re subscribed. We use reputable providers (such as Mailchimp or similar) who comply with data protection regulations.
  • Analytics platforms receive anonymised browsing data as described in Section 3. No personally identifying information is included.
  • Legal authorities, if we are compelled by a valid court order or legal obligation. In this case, we share only what is legally required and, where permitted, will notify you.
  • A future acquirer, in the event TinyFrolic is ever acquired or merged. You will be informed beforehand, and your data will be handled under the same terms as described in this policy.

In every case of sharing, we apply the principle of minimum necessary data — meaning we share only what is strictly required for the specific purpose, and nothing more.

Third-party services & links

External platforms embedded or linked on TinyFrolic

TinyFrolic occasionally embeds content from or links to third-party platforms. Once you interact with those platforms — clicking a YouTube video, following a link, or clicking a share button — you’re subject to their own privacy policies, which are separate from ours. Here’s what you might encounter:

  • Google Analytics. Collects anonymised usage data. You can opt out globally using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. See Google’s Privacy Policy for full details.
  • Embedded videos (YouTube / Vimeo). If we embed a video, that platform may set cookies in your browser when the video loads or plays, even if you don’t click it. Where possible, we use privacy-enhanced embed modes.
  • Social sharing buttons. These link out to Twitter/X, Facebook, Pinterest, and similar platforms. Clicking them takes you to those sites — they do not send data back to us.
  • Affiliate product links. Some links to hamster products may be affiliate links — meaning we may earn a small commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you. These are always disclosed. We do not share your data with retailers; the retailer’s own privacy policy applies once you land on their site.

We try to keep third-party embeds minimal, and we do not embed content from data brokers, ad networks, or social platforms unless it directly serves a reader benefit.

6

How long we keep your data

Specific retention periods for each data type

We don’t hold on to data longer than we need to. Below is a clear breakdown of how long each type of data is kept and what happens when that period ends.

Data type How long we keep it What happens after
Analytics data 14 months Automatically deleted by Google Analytics
Contact form messages 12 months Deleted from our inbox and any CRM system
Newsletter subscriptions Until unsubscribe Email removed within 30 days of unsubscribing
Server / access logs 30 days Automatically purged by our hosting provider

You can always request earlier deletion of your data by emailing us — see Section 7 for how.

7

Your rights over your data

What you can ask us to do — and how

Depending on where you live, you have a range of legal rights regarding your personal data. We honour all of them, regardless of your location — not just because we’re required to, but because it’s the right way to operate.

Right to access

Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.

Right to correct

Ask us to fix inaccurate or incomplete information.

Right to delete

Request that we erase your personal data from our systems.

Right to object

Object to how we’re using your data in certain circumstances.

Right to portability

Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.

Withdraw consent

Unsubscribe or revoke any consent you’ve previously given.

To exercise any right, simply email contact@tinyfrolic.com with “Privacy Request” in the subject line. We’ll respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity first — usually by confirming the email address associated with your request.

If you are based in the European Economic Area or the UK, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority if you feel your rights are not being respected.

8

Children’s privacy

TinyFrolic is not directed at children under 13

Hamsters are wonderful pets for children, and we love that families use TinyFrolic together — but our website is designed for a general adult audience. We do not knowingly collect, store, or process personal information from children under the age of 13.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has submitted personal information to us through a contact form, comment, or newsletter sign-up, please email us immediately at contact@tinyfrolic.com. We will locate and delete the relevant data promptly, without question.

If your child uses TinyFrolic to read hamster care articles, no personal information is collected simply from browsing — only anonymous, aggregated analytics data that cannot be linked to an individual.
9

How we keep your data secure

Practical steps we take to protect your information

We take reasonable and practical steps to protect the personal data we hold. While no system can guarantee absolute security, here is what we do:

  • HTTPS encryption is enforced across the entire site. All data transmitted between your browser and TinyFrolic is encrypted in transit.
  • Access controls mean that only necessary personnel can access personal data — and only for the specific purpose it was collected for.
  • Reputable service providers with strong security track records handle our hosting, email delivery, and analytics. We vet all third-party processors before using them.
  • Regular reviews of our data practices ensure we’re not holding more data than we need or using it in ways we haven’t disclosed here.

In the unlikely event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you and any relevant authorities as required by applicable law.

10

Changes to this policy

How and when we update this page

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time — for example, if we add a new feature that involves data, if a service provider changes, or if legal requirements shift. When that happens, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.

For minor changes (like correcting a typo or clarifying a sentence), we’ll just update the page. For significant changes — such as collecting a new type of data or changing how we use existing data — we will post a notice on the TinyFrolic homepage and, where appropriate, email newsletter subscribers to let them know.

Your continued use of TinyFrolic after a policy update means you accept the revised terms. We encourage you to check this page occasionally, especially if you’ve shared personal information with us.

11

Get in touch about privacy

We’re happy to answer any questions

Privacy policies can feel impersonal. Ours isn’t meant to be. If anything on this page is unclear, if you’d like to exercise a right, or if you simply have a question about how we handle data, please reach out. We read every message and aim to reply within 2 business days.
